YRALIS Queens Cup

On Sunday, July 25, eight teams of women’s sailors from around Long Island Sound met at American YC to compete for the YRA of LIS Women’s Championship, the Queens Cup, which is also a qualifier for the Andrea Watson Trophy. Competitors arrived to find winds 12-15 knots from the south, though over the course of the day, that breeze lightened considerably! The AYC race committee set a series of windward-leeward courses and ran six races, all of which had a unique feel due to the oscillating wind direction, changing wind strength, and shifting current conditions. Indeed, the varied conditions were evident in the results, as three different teams won races and several others pushed their way into the top three over the course of the day. In the end, consistency was the key; Katie Morgan and Britt Hall from Noroton YC kept themselves more up than down and took the championship with eight points. Competitors finished the day in good spirits and all look forward to challenging again in 2022!
