YRA of LIS 2022 Laser Frostbiting Championship

Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club were the hosts of this year’s Laser Frostbiting Championships on April 10^th.  Several the competitors had participated in SCYC’s Spring Fling regatta the day before when the gusts were coming down up to 25 knots with some steep lulls which got them prepared for the event and the current. Fortunately, the wind for the Frostbite Championships was stronger, less shifty and a lot less capsizes and swimming than the day before. 

Right from the start the competition was tight and aggressive which triggered a General Recall and I flag to get the event going. It quickly became the Peter and David show as these two went after each other and held off the rest of the fleet.  Bill McCullogh got off to a bad start with his upper spar breaking on the first beat to windward when a gust popped out of the trees. His son, Kai McCullogh was the only Junior in the fleet having just graduated from the Optimists and making a great showing in the high winds. Ann Dangy was the top Woman and John McGrane was the top Master.

Peter Beardsley and David Crippen were back and forth all through the day and it truly came down to the last race with Peter just edging out David at the finish that brought the series into a tie breaker with Peter’s three bullets taking the day.
